Summit Technology has a 6+ month contract position available for an Embedded Linux Engineer in Rochester NY

The client has a product currently in development that uses the i.MX 6 quad core processor with a Cirrus dual channel codec and Micrel 5 port Ethernet switch.

They are running embedded Linux using Yocto as the build environment.  There is also a need to develop a password protected WebGUI for configuration of the unit.

 

Other details:

  • BSP support:
    • Adding and configuring hardware that needs the device tree.
  • Driver development:
    • Modifying codec driver and ASOC driver to meet our requirements and write the machine driver to integrate these two for ALSA framework (this includes some device tree work).
    • Potentially more codec driver development to get the second channel to work as we want.
  • No Kernel development.
  • Software development (C/C++ and JavaScript/Angular) on application that puts together everything including:
    • Main audio portion of the application is with G-streamer using glib.
    • A database (SQLITE) to store the configuration and status of device
    • Web interface
  • Yocto
    • Creating Image based on demo image (own company layer and board).
    • Creating layers, recipes, packages.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu, GIT and JIRA is a plus.

FPGA Verification Engineer contract position (6+ months)

DESCRIPTION OF FPGA VERIFICATION SUPPORT

The Summit employee shall work on-site at the Columbia, MD facility and perform as an integral part of the FPGA Development Team. Assigned tasks will predominately involve FPGA Verification, but may include of the FPGA test or documentation tasks.

 

FPGA Verification

  • Design and generation of self-checking System Verilog Test Benches to verify functional requirements per FPGA Specifications
  • Generation/collection of functional coverage
  • FPGA Documentation
  • Generation and Review of FPGA Specifications & Verification Plan
  • Generation and Review of FPGA Functional Coverage Reports
  • FPGA Integration and Test
  • Support of Integration and testing of requirements on target hardware

 

Requirements:

  • Electrical Engineer with 5+ years of FPGA and/or ASIC design and/or verification exp.
  • Working experience with OVM/UVM verification methodologies
  • Working knowledge and proficiency Object Oriented programming
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in SystemVerilog coding for self-checking test bench development
  • 5+ years of digital logic design experience
  • Solid Technical writing ability
  • Requires U.S. citizenship with an active SECRET clearance (or within 2 years active) for ability to access classified information at the SECRET LEVEL.

Integration Engineer

Description:

Detail design of complex tactical radio systems integrated into systems and platforms (man-portable, vehicular systems, enterprise systems) that satisfy specific customer requirements for critical wireless communications.

  • Design systems utilizing client and other OEM equipment to offer a complete solution integrated into customer systems and platforms (man-portable, vehicular systems, enterprise systems).  Systems includes one or more of the following: HF, VHF, UHF, and microwave radios, satellite communications, custom design peripheral subsystems for both voice and data applications.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, video, and other data protocols for use in communication systems.
  • Experience with design and integration of electronics and communications equipment into vehicle platforms (primarily land vehicles, but sea and air platforms experienced a plus).
  • Provide complete design efforts including: defining the end customer’s technical requirement; designing, documenting and costing of systems, and integration and test of those systems.
  • Manage the project risks and ensure proactive mitigation strategies and risk reduction during the system design execution is employed.
  • Work with Integrated Product Team Lead to ensure the conversion of customer requirements, including both formal and informal requirements, into solutions that balance the technical, schedule and cost constraints for the system design.
  • Lead discussions with fellow engineers, sales, consultants, vendors and other Harris personnel as necessary to advance and develop designs based on customer requirements.
  • Work directly with other IPT teams in a matrix organization.  Ability to manage multiple project responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, including ability to draft technical documentation and conduct effective presentations to a wide range of audiences. Responsible for the configuration management of all system design documents.
  • Position requires the demonstrated ability to work effectively with other organizations (Engineering, Sales, Program Management, and Operations) to complete assigned projects.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering or other technical field and 5+ years of experience or Masters Degree with 3+ years of work experience
  • Approximately 10% short term international travel anticipated
  • Computer Proficiency – Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, and MS Project.

 

Preferred Skills:

Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Strong technical design experience to include knowledge and expertise in the following areas:  interface control documentation, interconnect diagram development, digital network architecture, and technical writing.
  • Knowledge of RF antenna systems, two-way tactical radio systems, microwave systems, other wireless systems, IP networks, International Government / DoD systems experience desirable.
  • Position requires the demonstrated ability to work effectively with other organizations to complete assigned projects.
  • Proficiency at writing clear and concise language tailored to a wide variety of audiences. Successful candidate will possess excellent technical, interpersonal and customer skills, plus demonstrate the capacity to effectively foster team building within and beyond his/her IPT.
  • Packaging and performance verification of electrical systems for harsh environments including rugged packaging for transport and mobile applications.  Military Systems experience in this area a plus.
  • Working familiarity with applicable regulations and best practices; e.g., NEC, UL, TUV, CSA, Mil Spec.
  • Experience with process improvement in a CMMI and ISO9001 work environment.
  • Experience with management of subcontractors
  • International travel experiences as well as foreign language proficiency a plus.
